Were Mini Brands Books recalled?

No formal recall has been documented. Here's what happened:

• In June 2026, The Mary Sue reported that a parent found Colleen Hoover's Without Merit in a Mini Brands Books capsule bought for her 7-year-old. The opening page contains adult content.
• According to the parent's account, ZURU said the "ages 3+" label covers choking hazards, not content. ZURU also said it would stop producing Colleen Hoover books and add stricter quality control.
• Collectors then reported Books Series 2 missing from some Target shelves. As of October 2026 we've found no recall notice from ZURU or Target, and viminitoys.com reports no 2026 CPSC recall for any ZURU Mini Brands product.

Our checklists include six Colleen Hoover titles: It Starts With Us and Reminders of Him in Series 1, and Never Never, Slammed, Heart Bones and Without Merit in Series 2.

What is Mini Brands Books Series 3 "After Dark"?

Books Series 3 is themed "After Dark" and focuses on romantasy and YA romance. Titles shown so far include Fourth Wing (Rebecca Yarros), A Court of Frost and Starlight (Sarah J. Maas), It's Not Summer Without You (Jenny Han) and Fearful (Lauren Roberts). The box reportedly says "48 to collect".

As of October 2026, ZURU hasn't announced a release date. One US retailer was taking preorders for an estimated April 2027 arrival. We'll add a checklist as soon as the official list is out.
